The case of a man accused of raping a girl under the age of 12 has been adjourned to November 28.

The man, who has an interim name suppression, appeared in court on Thursday last week.

He is charged with nine counts of inducing an indecent act, three counts of rape and a charge of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 12.

Defence counsel Charles Petero advised Justice of the Peace Tangi Taoro that he was yet to receive disclosures and requested for an adjournment.

Petero said he understood more charges were to be laid against his client.

Police prosecutor senior sergeant Fairoa Tararo said the file against the accused was “big” and the disclosures would be handed to the defence lawyer.

The accused is currently on bail.

The OTB Restaurant theft case has been adjourned to November 28.

Lawyer Mark Short told the Court that he had no knowledge of the case and requested an adjournment.

Tetiare Tekea Tongiariki Inamata is accused of taking $1000 from the OTB Restaurant.

Inamata has been bailed with conditions not to go to the OTB premises and not to interfere with police investigation or with restaurant owner Philip Nordt.

A woman who was initially charged for assaulting a child has had her charges reduced.

Defence counsel Jamie Crawford advised the court that the charge had been reduced to common assault due to the victim’s age at the time of the alleged offence.

Crawford said that the case was also being considered for a diversion.

Justice of the Peace Tangi Taoro adjourned the matter to November 28 and ordered name suppression to continue.
