Busy day of ‘games’ today

Saturday 4: While lawn bowls got the Cook Islands Games competition on the way on Monday, a number of codes will be running and starting their competitions today.

Lawn bowls will continue at the Rarotonga Bowling Club in Parekura while the sailing competition will start in Aitutaki.

Bowls and sailing will run right through the week and end on the final day of the Cook Islands Games competition which is Saturday April 11.

Also starting today will be the table tennis competition to be held at the Princess Anne Hall starting at 2pm.

Team events will begin the table tennis tournament followed by the start of the preliminary rounds for the open men and womens doubles category.

Table tennis will wrap up on Monday night. Tennis will also start today at Raemaru Park with the competition to run right through to Saturday April 11.

Also out at Raemaru Park will be the one day touch rugby tournament which will start at 8.30am with the finals expected to be held at 4pm.

The two-day volleyball tournament will start today at the Nikao Maori Primary School with the final day of the competition to be held on Monday.

Triathlon will be held at the Avatiu Western Harbour today starting at 3pm.

All motorists and pedestrians in this area are asked to stay away from the basin area as this will be the triathlon transition site.

The triathlon will be run between 3pm and 6 o’clock and there is to be no vessel traffic within the harbour between this time.

Exception will be made, however, to boat owners requiring deliveries to and from their boats up until 2.45pm.

So make sure you are in your vaka or island colour and get out to one of these Cook Islands Games sports and cheer your athletes on. - Matariki Wilson
