Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Cook Islands will join a three-day global convention this weekend, which promises to bring news to attendees.

The 2024 “Declare the Good News!” convention will be held from Friday to Sunday this week to comfort and encourage all who attend, says Jeff Tikitau, spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Cook Islands.

“These conventions are a highlight of the year for anyone who wants to experience some positivity and good news in their lives,” Tikitau said.

“The programme will include topics such as why we need good news, how we can use it to defeat bad news, and why we don’t need to fear bad news.

“The three-day event is designed to inspire confidence and build hope in the future.”

The programme will feature 64 Bible-based videos, interviews, talks and symposiums to provide practical guidance to people of all ages.

Saturday spotlights a baptism of candidates from surrounding communities, while a two-part video feature on the life of Jesus will captivate the audience on Friday and Saturday mornings.

The programme will be delivered in both Cook Islands Maori and English.

Prior to the convention, Jehovah’s Witnesses throughout the Cook Islands will engage in a

campaign to invite the whole community to join them at this free event.

Last year, nearly 13 million people attended more than 6000 three-day conventions worldwide.

“A Christian denomination, Jehovah’s Witnesses have a presence in some 240 lands and are one of the largest non-profit volunteer Bible educators and producers of Scripturally based content in the world. They have been active in the Cook Islands since the early 1930s.

“All of Jehovah’s Witnesses’ meetings, conventions, Bible study aids and videos are free of charge and available to the public. No collections are ever taken.”

Programme: Dates: September 13-15; Times: Friday from 9:20am to 5pm; Saturday from 9:20am to 5pm, Sunday from 9:20am to 3:40pm. Venue: Maori: Pukapuka Hostel, English: Avarua National Auditorium
